Trump Administration Grants South Carolina Foster Care Agencies Authority to Discriminate Against Jewish and Muslim Families

Quote:
The Trump administration on Wednesday made a quiet move that opens the door for the religious right to use the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act to discriminate against able foster parents whose religious views are in conflict with those of an agency.

On the 33rd day of the government shutdown, Steven Wagner, principal deputy assistant secretary at the Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, signed a waiver giving special permission to a federally funded Protestant foster care agency in South Carolina to break federal and state law, using strict religious requirements to deny Jewish, Muslim, and Catholic parents from fostering children in its network.

After months of lobbying by Reid Lehman, president and CEO of Miracle Hill Ministries, South Carolina lawmakers, and Gov. Henry McMaster, Wagner signed a waiver that lets the agency keep its federal funding, despite warnings by the state Department of Social Services that it’s violating federal and state nondiscrimination law, as well as internal agency policy, by denying parents of the Jewish faith from fostering children. The agency also rejects parents who are agnostic and atheist — anyone who is not a Protestant Christian.

Israel just blindly supporting this jerk is really something.

Reminds me I meant to post this article from NYT a couple weeks ago about the divide growing between US Jews and Israel

How long will it take the next administration to weed through all the low-down, no-good things this administration has done and undo them?

Well surely there's proper diversity in the furloughed workers' portfolios that they can free up some cash in this pinch. They could always sell one of their vacation homes, the petulent babies.

Ooh, Swit idea: build the wall out of the furloughed workers' corpses.

Officials rejected Jared Kushner for top secret security clearance, but were overruled

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald ... ed-n962221

Quote:
WASHINGTON — Jared Kushner's application for a top secret clearance was rejected by two career White House security specialists after an FBI background check raised concerns about potential foreign influence on him — but their supervisor overruled the recommendation and approved the clearance, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.

The official, Carl Kline, is a former Pentagon employee who was installed as director of the personnel security office in the Executive Office of the President in May 2017. Kushner's was one of at least 30 cases in which Kline overruled career security experts and approved a top secret clearance for incoming Trump officials despite unfavorable information, the two sources said. They said the number of rejections that were overruled was unprecedented — it had happened only once in the three years preceding Kline's arrival.

One of the most important things to know about William Barr is that he, under George HW, pushed HARD for the pardons of Reagan cronies who were convicted for Iran-Contra stuff. Most of those guys IIRC were convicted of things like fraud, withholding evidence, perjury. HW pardoned them all in the last days of his presidency.

Just goes to show you that the difference between someone like Trump and George HW Bush is a lot smaller than the establishment (both Republicans AND Democrats) would want us to believe.
