I can only speak for myself of course....but I think you were reading more emotion into my comments than were there. You have a right to say whatever you want about the Gashouse Gang; I have the right to disagree and say that it is a ridiculous comment. That is all I did. I wasn't and am not mad about it. Differences of opinion don't have to be seeded in acrimony.
I love talking about classic Cards teams (baseball teams, really) from different eras. I lived through the great teams of the ‘60s and bring a different perspective than younger fans. But none of us were here during the Gashouse era. We can look stats and read books but that’s all we have. So opinions fly. Debates happen. And that’s a good thing. As long as y’all agree that I’m right.

It’s a simple game . ( who said that ?)

Sounds like a Bull Durham quote.

Going all 3s instead of splurging on some 5s is like being content with an 88 win team and a shot at a wild card
It is worth noting that those 3s include 3 Hall of Famers, 2 MVPs, 2 MVP runners-up, a Cy Young winner, and a 7-time Gold Glove winner.

My point exactly. Ownership is cheap.

I’m just going to try to and base these decisions based on what these guys did as cardinals. If you start taking 1, 3, 5 etc whatever peaks it can get messy with when they peaked and woh whine so looking at it like that helps clear up some choices. Eg, Beltran or Musial. So here’s mine:

LF Burkett
CF Pham
RF Musial
3B Rolen
SS Renteria
2b Hornsby
1B Mize
C Yadi
SP Gibson
RP Rosy
Mgr Matheny

Had similar thoughts about my team but just reversed. I was thinking I’d get Stan, AP, Ozzie, and Gibby no matter what and just fill out the rest as needed. Didn’t really work out that way.

Yeah, I don't know why, it's not really a quantifiable thing, but I really wanted Yadi on the team. It'd be easy to drop Yadi, pick up MM, swap Mize for AP and then Pham for Flood. But, eh, I think it needs to stay that way.

The more I think about it, just about any lineup can be defended which is what makes it so interesting/different. It's not the same math game that we're used to playing with FA, extensions, trades, etc.

Do you have enough money left over to bring in somebody else from the list when Pham lands on the DL?
