I don't tend to follow horse racing much (the Kentucky Derby is simply an excuse for drinking on the first Saturday in May), but the news that 21 horses have had to be euthanized at Santa Anita Racetrack in the last two months sounds insane: http://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/261 ... horse-dies
Then again, we're able to flog dead horses at GRB for months, even years, at a time.

Re: Horse Deaths at Santa Anita Racetrack
I have no idea how many horses die per year. Seems like you get a few at each racetrack every year and there are going to be countless others during training. 21 in a couple months does seem high, though reading the article it doesn't appear anything is wrong with the track. And, Santa Anita is one of the higher end racetracks. Firmly in the upper end of the second tier if not in the first tier.
Horse racing can be a cruel sport.
