Pour some vermouth in a glass, swirl it, and then pour the whole mess down the sink.

Shake some gin with some crushed ice, pour in glass. Bomb an olive.

voilà: perfect martini.
Put your vermouth in a spray bottle (same thing works with absinthe in a Sazerac etc) and you won't have to pour it down the sink.
Ah, very clever.

But it's vermouth, you'll have that original bottle for at least 10 years, I promise.
Save a little here and there and make yourself an Algonquin.

2 ounce rye whiskey
1 ounce dry vermouth
1 ounce pineapple juice

With the first two ingredients you'll be on your way to a Scofflaw and a Brooklyn cocktail as well.

Fentiman’s. I have to run but will post some gin thoughts later.
Have you tried the tonic syrup from Pinckney Bend Distillery in New Haven? I'm a big fan.
I don't think it's distributed here.

What is a good tonic that I pick up at Publix or Harris Teeter, if that is even an option? Thanks

Dunno because I don't have Publix near me. FeverTree, Fentiman's, and Q are very good.

You can get all three on Amazon. The FeverTree Indian Tonic is very good and would be my first choice. IIRC you're in Charlotte, so if there's a big-box liquor store that has that whole "If it worth drinking, we've got it" mentality they probably have it.

Ah, sorry. I've never been to Charleston but have heard nothing but great things. I bet there's a good place around that has it.

Glad this got bumped because I've crossed a lot of new stuff lately.

Tonic. TopNote. Female-made. Mary used to be a beer brewer at Goose Island. She started brewing up soda instead. She makes three dynamite tonics, a ginger beer, and a grapefruit soda that as a lifelong Squirt addict is like crack.

Detroit City Distilling launched in Illinois recently, I think they're only in MI and IL. Their Peacemaker Gin is remarkable. They put branches of Michigan Blue Spruce trees in the still, and the pine needles give it some, well, pine needle flavor, and the sap from the tree gives it a bit of a beer hop note with lemon. It's really very good.

Now I want a G&T. Unfortunately I'm going dry til Whiskey Week.
