I never liked these "unwritten rules." What's wrong with breaking up a no-hitter with a bunt, exactly? The players want to do anything they can to get on base, and if swinging away isn't working, why not try something else?

Ha. This relates to the last post in here.

This was a combined no-hitter and the score was only 3-0.

I think combined no-hitters aren’t that special anyway. I have no issues with someone laying down a bunt there.

For normal no-hitters, I could be convinced either way. Bunting for hits isn’t exactly high percentage for most players anyway. Now if some hulking slugger laid down a bunt against a shifted defense in the ninth inning of a 4-0 no-hit bid? I’d be like “come on...”

Combined no hitters are meaningless to me; other than its a team win. And I kind of don't have a problem with bunting to get on base; what's the difference if the bunt happens in the first or the ninth inning? A hit is a hit.

I'd actually applaud it there because the shift more or less dares the batter to bunt. Maybe not that late into it, but in the 7th or 8th innings, definitely.

Every time a Knot Hole Gang Vet post gets bumped I find myself looking through his old posts and reading them at random; good stuff. He is missed.

You weren't the only one. And I bet we weren't the only ones.
