A no-hitter into the 7th and for some reason always had the strange feeling we were going to lose this game. That's how bad this team hits.
Pretty much sums it up.

What is the Cardinals's philosophy for hitting now? It used to be high pitch counts/good plate discipline. Now they have lots of players who love to roll the dice with 0-2 counts and making very weak contact.

The team is slugging .401 for 26th in baseball.

22nd in runs scored. 7th in runs allowed. Their pitching and run prevention, remarkably, have kept them alive.

Their hitting philosophy in recent years has seemed to be to live and die by the home run. They're 24th in HR.

Looking at other Fangraphs stuff. They are 9th in fly ball %, and 6th in hard contact %. But they are 25th in HR/FB. So it seems not many of the balls they are hitting hard are fly balls.

I was surprised their K-rate (11th lowest) and walk rate (13th) were in the middle of the pack. The way this team K's it seems like it should be higher but I guess that shows what the game has become is today.
