That's what I assume - the rule for bunt strike three probably came about because batters could intentionally foul bunts all afternoon.BottenFieldofDreams wrote:Interesting. I'd rather the game correct itself before that rule came to MLB, but I wouldn't it hate it too much.
This bunt rule I really dislike. It just feels like 4 strikes to me. Fundamentally wrong. Maybe it's all just semantic or curmudgeonly, but I'd prefer making foul bunts like any other foul instead--if it has to change. I guess guys with good hands could really hurt pitch counts and pace of play though.

But they want to announce their presence with authority!go birds wrote:if the game was going to correct itself, it would have done so a long time ago.
why hitters don't swallow their pride and bunt down the 3rd base line every single time is maddening.

I would choke on the rinds, but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside.
Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out,
Find nothing but faith in nothing.
want to put my tender
Heart in a blender,
Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion.
Rendezvous, and I'm through with you.

I find the stealing first base intriguing. Pitchers /catchers would need to weigh bouncing a curve ball in the dirt against the possibility of a PB/WP. Catcher defense would become more important. It would mean more offense, which is what MLB seems to be shooting for.

If they tweak the rule a bit more, the game could get really interesting in a hurry.

Minnesota Twins legend Frank Viola makes history as the first coach to be tossed for arguing a computer's strike zone.
Reports are that the system is missing strike calls when the ball is partially in the zone.
I saw a statistic saying 1/3 of the computer's called balls have been pitches touching the edges of the zone acording to StatCast type graphics.

Managers ought to be able to challenge the robots and if he manager is right then he gets to take a baseball to the computer.
