Injury Update Thread

Post by planet planet »

Can people post what they know about the return/status of injured players here?

Izzy - last I heard, his first ST game is slated for 3/15
Edmonds - ?
Eckstein - ?
Kennedy - ?
Juan E - ?
Springer - ?

Did I miss anyone? We're pretty banged up.

Springer - Oblique strain and behind Izzy's schedule. From DG:
Russ Springer remains sidelined by a moderate oblique strain and La Russa said Thursday that he thinks closer Jason Isringhausen will throw in a game before Springer will. That’s a telling statement, as Isringhausen, coming back from hip surgery, is about a week away from throwing in a game. What once was the strength of the club, the bullpen, is showing some fraying.
Eckstein - per DG:
David Eckstein, continuing his recovery from a mild oblique strain, hit off the tee Thursday and took cuts at soft toss. He continues his deliberate recovery, and remains expected to return within the week.
edit: forgot the link

This was in Goold's game notes today:
The middle infielders with the strained obliques have yet to return.

Adam Kennedy is on the verge (he’ll start Saturday at Fort Lauderdale). David Eckstein is on a steady program, though Tony La Russa would only guarantee he’d play in the coming week.

The definition of “coming week” was left inexact.
Encarnacion and Edmonds are opening dayish, I want to say that Encarnacion is going to be a little longer. Not sure about Springer, and 3/15 sounds right for Izzy.

But you're tough like that, Pooley.

Izzy threw for the second time against batters today. XM said he threw his full arsenal of pitches, 29 pitches, 19 for strikes. Better results than last time; good news!

Planet, according to Gould's blog Izzy was nasty today. Snapped off a couple of nice curve balls and threw some form of his cutter that moved so much it fooled the catcher.

A week later, looks like everyone but Encar will be ready for Opening Day. (Fingers crossed for Edmonds).
