I'll toss out a couple....

The first: Jim Acker. A pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. Why do I mention Jim?? Because the Braves were in town to play the Cards...thought I might finally get Simba's autograph or at least meet him. He was the Braves back up catcher at this point in his career, would typically warm up pitchers in the bullpen. This is when the bullpen was on the 3rd base line (for visitors). So, I snuck down into the first row by the bullpen around the 5th or 6th inning. Just sat there, patiently waiting. Jim Acker tries some small talk....I ignored him. He tried again and I finally said, "I'm waiting for Ted Simmons.". A couple innings later, Ted makes an appearance and Jim Acker calls him over to meet me. Thanks, Jim, whoever in the hell you are!

Second: Paul Assenmacher. Also pitched for the Braves.....he goes to my church. Nice guy, looks like an accountant.

4-6 in 1980 before his shoulder crapped out and that was it.
Fulgham seems to be my alter-ego. We share the same birthday and went to the same high school. Then last year when someone posted a thread about seeing which Cardinals present or past wear the same number as your current age, I looked up Fulgham, and lo and behold, it matched. Eerie...

small piece of trivia: Fulgham won 14 games in his 1.5 year career, all complete games.

-------------------------

How about Gene Garber? I adopted his spin-around corkscrew pitching motion. Using it, I beaned 2 batters and hit a third on a pick-off attempt in one inning once. :D

His most effective pitch was a change-up, which he effectively delivered from an unusual, herky-jerky motion in which he would almost completely turn his back to the batter before delivering the ball in a side-arm, "submarine-style" manner.
You just hit on my favorite Cardinal trivia question. Spring that one on just about anyone and most people just scratch their heads.. (Name the Cardinal pitcher from the late 70s who won 14 games, all of them complete game victories?)

My random player: Phil Niekro.
