Trade Deadline/Rumor Thread formerly known as Breaking News

Post by Spider John »

I though instead of a new post for every deal or rumor it would be good to have a thread dedicated to that. Such as;
Cardinals could trade Lohse

Here's one of the most surprising names to pop up on the "available" list in the last 24 hours -- Kyle Lohse. Officials of two teams that spoke with the Cardinals report that they've been offering to deal Lohse if they can get back the right package.

The Cardinals have been looking for both a bat and a bullpen arm. And apparently, they concluded they didn't have the prospects to get both. They got Chris Carpenter back from the disabled list Wednesday, with Adam Wainwright a couple of weeks behind. And they have no assurance they can re-sign Lohse because he's a Scott Boras client.

So Lohse could dramatically alter the starting-pitching market Thursday if the Cardinals can find the right taker. Among the teams still looking for a starter: White Sox, Rockies and Yankees.

Stark has sources with two different teams saying that Lohse is being shopped. I wonder if there's a trade for another pitcher in play, or if Carp was impressive enough they feel like he will fill the void. If Lohse is traded and things don't work out, then the FO will have some 'splainin' to do.

Only the Cardinals could think of dealing their best pitcher (right now) when they are tied for the wild card.

Unreal.

Lohse is not their best pitcher

Hopefully they trade him if they can get a good haul back.

Good for Moz if he's actually being shopped.

It will take some guts to pull the trigger on a trade for the pitcher with the most wins on your team at this point in the season, but good for Moz for giving this a shot.

Yeah, cause the Cards have such a history of being sellers, especially prematurely at the deadline. Only the Cards...

In other news, according to PD Josh Kinney suffered another setback during his rehab program. He is suffering from elbow discomfort and his september call up is in doubt now.

Stupid Paletta.

Carpenter and Wainwright are.

Lohse is had been our best starter since Wainwright went out, well, Carpenter is back, and Wainwright will be back within 2-3 weeks. The difference between pitching Lohse in the next three starts and Garcia is minimal at best. I feel Lohse has probably peaked for the season. He's really not a good pitcher. The Cardinals have zero chance of resigning him. Trade him while his value is peaked and teams in contention may be desperate for a starter and willing to trade good prospects

Now, I'm not saying give him away, but if you can get 1 A-level prospect, and 2 other middling ones, I'd do it. Or better yet, a really good hitter.
