Re: The Breaking News Thread
Back to Lohse, here's what I think Mo is thinking.
The pen needs help. That's why there's been talk of Wainwright going there. However, one way he might see of getting a closer is to deal Lohse. If he can get a closer by dealing Lohse, then you put Wainwright back in the rotation. If you keep Lohse, then you put Wainwright in the pen.
Who would you rather have in the rotation? Wainwright or Lohse?
Who would you rather have in the pen? Wainwright with Lohse starting, or a true closer with Wainwright starting?
I like Wainwright in the rotation (although I'd put him there regardless of what happens with Lohse). I'm guessing this is the thinking, but that's just speculation.

You, mi amigo, are apparently the only person that paid attention to this (see bold). I didn't pay it much mind:BW23 wrote:Back to Lohse, here's what I think Mo is thinking.

If Lohse would somehow entice them to deal Fuentes... that deal makes a ton of sense for both teams. Both teams get to keep a type A free agent. Both teams fill a need. And in Mo's case, getting Wainwright back means you don't even flinch at losing Lohse while still being able to make a pretty big upgrade to the bullpen.Among the teams still looking for a starter: White Sox, Rockies and Yankees.

Re: The Breaking News Thread
This thread is not very "breaking". Everytime I see a new post, I think hey something has happened yet it is a discussion about nothing that is breaking. (As much as threads get moved here shouldn't this thread, or the Loshe being shopped comments, be moved in the Loshe being shopped thread?)
As to the Rockies, Bernie's column said today maybe something minor, but if a bigger deal is to happen it would be with the Rockies.

What happens if we dont get Wainwright back or Carpenter gets hurt in his next start and we lose him also. What do you do then? There seems to be alot of banking on returns with this team really cant say any have payed off. So we risk losing are top starter this season for who knows what the banking on two healthy returns and 1 has been postponed already once this season.

No way, Lohse for Fuentes straight up. An above average starter(which Lohse has been this year) is more valuable than an abover average reliever.
If it's part of a more elaborate trade, then I'd reconsider. Straight up, no thanks.

I also think that's why they wanted Carpenter starting in the majors before the deadline just to have a better idea about how he'll do. Granted, it was the Braves.JL21 wrote:You, mi amigo, are apparently the only person that paid attention to this (see bold). Should we ask them to throw in Holiday?robbotis wrote:No way, Lohse for Fuentes straight up. An above average starter(which Lohse has been this year) is more valuable than an abover average reliever.

Lohse has been above average this year. He's also been below it for about half of the rest of his career. If Dan O'Dowd is dumb enough to look at Kyle Lohse and disregard everything he's been prior to 2008, more power to Mo for making this deal.

I agree. I mean, personally, I side with what you're saying. But I think that's the kind of deal they're looking at.robbotis wrote:No way, Lohse for Fuentes straight up. An above average starter(which Lohse has been this year) is more valuable than an abover average reliever.

And while I also agree that this kind of deal would really favor the Rox, especially since Fuentes really isn't the closer, I wonder how much bigger the deal could get.

Re: The Breaking News Thread
I'd do Lohse for Fuentes. Solves the lefty reliever problem and/or solves the closer problem, and depending on signability, could be a part of the team's future. I hesitate on Fuentes' age(32) a bit, but it looks like he's been durable(I don't see any significant time missed from injury).

Re: The Breaking News Thread
The Cards' leverage is diminished by that fact that all indications suggest the Cards will not sign Lohse. At best, he's 2 months of pitching from a guy with a career 96 ERA+ and 1.41 WHIP.robbotis wrote:No way, Lohse for Fuentes straight up.
