If it's part of a more elaborate trade, then I'd reconsider. Straight up, no thanks.
Should we ask them to throw in Holiday?

Lohse has been above average this year. He's also been spectacularly below it for about half of the rest of his career. If Dan O'Dowd is dumb enough to look at Kyle Lohse and disregard everything he's been prior to 2008, more power to Mo for making this deal.
Is there any way possible to get Holliday, too, without giving up Rasmus? Perez, Jay and Todd?

I trust Bernie about as far as I could throw him.

Are you saying you're not that strong?

Very few people are strong enough to make Bernie trustworthy.

When the format was different, if you were at .500 or struggling to get there you were a seller, pure and simple. But now? Heck .500 teams win divisions, and if you are a good winning streak away from .500 and in the correct geographic quadrant you probably are a buyer. Add to it the cost of established ballplayers and what prospects now mean to teams (some more than others) and it's an ingredient for some pretty blah trade deadline news.
I'm not sure this is completely accurate. I mean, in this year's trading season, we've seen last year's AL Cy Young winner traded (CC), one of the better pitchers in the AL traded (Harden), one of the better hitters in the NL traded (Tex), a future HOF'er traded (Pudge), and a couple rumored deals that have some pretty big names (Griffey, Bay, Manny, Hermida).

If anything, in the old, old days (pre-FA) you didn't have as much player movement, because you weren't worried as much about salary dumps and not being able to sign a pending FA. I don't remember the 80's being a huge marketplace each year either. Maybe I'm just not remembering correctly.
I read an article once that showed the decline of deadlines, although I can't recall where it was at. Maybe it's just the hype we get today. Frankly I find things that turn out to be 90% rumor incredibly mind numbing, so I pay just the bare amount of attention to it and watch the games.

There seems to be alot of banking on returns with this team really cant say any have payed off. So we risk losing are top starter this season for who knows what the banking on two healthy returns and 1 has been postponed already once this season.
What happens is that we don't have a very good shot at making or competing in the postseason, whether we have Lohse or not.

Yes. Always.

you guys are onto something. It pains me, though. I don't like trading for overvalued relievers (i.e. closers), especially not for a reliable starter who would likely start 1-2 games in every playoff series. Maybe we have the makings of a blockbuster with Holliday and Fuentes coming this way for Rasmus, Lohse, and Perez. I could live with that.

Who knows.

I think that's the big difference--the gap between the rumored deals and the actual deals. I'm with you--I pay virtually no attention to all of the rumors. When something actually happens, let me know.

I'm not sure what I'm saying. I just wanted to make that joke. And give everyone the mental image of someone trying to pick Bernie up and throw him.

I used to push cars around to work out. I have always wanted to try putting Bernie in a shopping cart and push it around, but my doctor strictly said "no Bernie pushing for you."
