Let's make this a reference point for various STL bars. Where have you been? Which ones do you like? What's good about these bars?

I got to thinking about this because I inadvertently found a bar called "Bommar's" in a strip mall at Kingshighway and Chippewa yesterday, and now I'm sort of curious about it. There was another one very close to it in the same strip mall, but I don't remember the name.

Most recently:
The Cabin Inn at the City Museum - I liked it a lot. Rustic, neat outdoor area with a big fire. Downside: loud children (even after 11pm!) and kinda "too cool for school" service *
staff.

BS Bar and Grill in St. Ann - Loud but cheap. A basement level was nice to keep things from being too loud and too crowded. Not a lot of personality but cheap and nicer on the inside than you'd imagine based on the outside.

Millstream on Main St. St. Charles - I love this bar.

Sundeckers on the landing - Not much use for it in the winter but even when it was cold the other night I liked having a drink on that deck.

The Grizzly (sp?) in Soulard - I like this bar.

I've been to the places you've told me to show up at. Lafayette-something and Big Daddy's down in Soulard, and Hair of the Dog on Washington Ave, IIRC.

Other than that, I think I was at the Broadway Oyster Bar once before a Cards game.

All dives. All just my kind of places. I hope to discover a new one soon.

Great Grizzly Bar. Nice place.

I'm a fan of Hammerstone's before Cardinals games. It's pretty crowded and smokey inside though.

I like the Broadway Oyster Bar as well during the season. Nice beer selection for a small place.

Tucker's Place in Soulard is underrated. There are always weird people drinking there and you can order a decent burger for $5 (it used to be 1/2 off, might still be) at 11pm and head over to one of the other bars afterwards.

Rue 13 has great sushi if you are going out in that area. I avoid the 80s music videos, burlesque shows or whatever goes on there after 9 ot 10 at night.

I just figured out that The Tin Can downtown is open until 3am. Johnny Gitto's is open late too, but being open late and not a club is about all it has going for it.

I've been to Friendly's a couple of times recently. During the week it's an OK place to drink for incredibly cheap and they have specials during Blues/Cards/Rams games, but on a Saturday it wasn't worth it. 30 minutes to get a drink from the bar.

Scottish Arms seems awesome, but it was too crowded to move when I was there. I really like dark bars, and the menu looked great. As far as St. Louis soccer bars are concerned it makes Barrister's look like a Denny's. Still haven't been to Amsterdam Pub.

I really miss 20 North with Jake's Leg. Now it is a beautiful parking lot for SLU.

You cannot call it a bar, but there is a place on Maryland just east of Eclid in the CWE. It's euro-style wine shop/boutique, but it has a basement seating area where you can consume your libations. There is what appears to an old cellar or jail cell down there. I have always wanted to drink down there and mumble conspiratorial things in hushed tones...

I always go there for a Bloody Mary when I'm in town. It's a nice way to start the day off right.
