I've heard good things.

It's my new mission in life to open a good 3am bar in St. Louis. Johnny Gitto's is terrible, all the clubs are terrible, the east side is hell on earth, Mangia is just weird, and Bar 101 makes you want to kill yourself. The Can downtown is OK (they played the entirety of 36 Chambers the last time I was there) but no one goes ther for some reason. I hadn't been to Cusumano's in forever, but paying a $5 cover to pay $4 for a bud bottle is pretty rough. There's zero competition and these place can just do whatever they goddamn want to.

Speaking of maplewood, anyone been to the jive and wail? someone told me they have $20 all-you-can drink on Fridays - top shelf, whatever you want.

awesome post. No insights to the 3AM bar scene from me, but I spent 20 minutes in the jive and wail, got in a fracas and was shown the door. duelin pianos -meh.

I was almost the victim of a hate crime last night. If a biker calls you and your friend gay don't tell him that the two of you are very happy together.

So Nick's is the answer to the 3am bar conundrum. Been there several times lately - prices are reasonable and there's a solid beer selection. It's an actual decent pub that happens to be open late. I don't know why I didn't figure this out sooner.

I'm not gonna lie, that would have been too much for my friends and I to resist. We probably would have thrown in a slow dance and man kiss just to up the ante.

I finally went in this place last night and it was absolutely ridiculous.

The bartender was trashed. I ordered a budweiser and she kept slurring about how I should "try the bud select, it's what the bartender likes to drink" while holding up a half-drank bottle of bud select.

There are Chevy's sombreros nailed to the wall above the bar... I have no idea. Also, they have a bunch of pints of schnapps or something back there lined up like that's a cool thing to do.

Anyway, I saw the bartender at Pop's a few hours later and I asked her if she remembered me. I'm pretty sure she literally growled.

Also went to the Way Out Club on Jefferson. It was much better than I thought it would be when I was walking in. Had a nice space for live music and an amazing collection of antique shakers behind the bar.

Jack Patrick's is a decent 3am sports bar. Like Nick's, it's an alternative to the places that are hell on earth after 1:30.

If you're a preppy dip-[expletive] who likes to pay $5 for Budweiser products and drink at a bar with actual ice on it, I'd suggest that you check out Sub-Zero vodka bar in the CWE. I guess that's predictable though for a place with hundreds of bottles of alcohol that ALL TASTE THE [expletive] SAME. I hear the sushi's good though.

Barney's sports pub is fine. 3am with a couple of pool tables, decent crowd.

Oh I almost forgot this one. Boogaloo has [expletive] swings instead of stools at the bar! Kiss my ass with that [expletive].

I like Sub Zero... only as a place to visit occasionally tho. But I also love vodka and sushi, so it works well for me.

Lately I've been going to Oz in Cahokia after 3am.

I had a couple of Buds at the Cat's Meow this morning. Got a smile from the old broad behind the bar then she jumped the [expletive] of the next guy who walked in for apparently getting grabby with her last night.

anytime you get patted down and go through metal detectors to drink you know it's going to be a good time.
