Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Brees and Sean Payton got MOBBED.Spider John wrote:Socnorb11 wrote:I would have preferred that he shook hands before he left. I won't defend him for that. I don't know what Manning did, but he's typically a total class act.
Manning might be a class act, outside of the times he's had his ass handed to him by Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
I suppose I'd be pissed off if my title was downgraded to 2nd best of his generation.

I was specifically watching QBs to shake hands after the game. One of the first shots they showed when the game was over was an overhead of Drew Brees surrounded by about 50 people with boom mikes and cameras. Manning would have had to pull people out of the way to get to Brees. He didn't have the opportunity to congratulate him.

Re: Teh Super Bowl thread
NEW YORK — The Super Bowl was watched by more than 106 million people, surpassing the 1983 finale of "M-A-S-H" to become the most-watched program in television history.
The Nielsen Co. estimated Monday that 106.5 million people watched the New Orleans Saints upset the Indianapolis Colts. That beats the "M-A-S-H" finale, which had 105.97 million viewers in an era when there were fewer television sets.
Compelling story lines involving the city of New Orleans and its recovery from Hurricane Katrina and the quest for a second Super Bowl ring for Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning propelled the viewership.
The game also obliterated the previous record viewership for a Super Bowl – last year's game between Arizona and Pittsburgh in which 98.7 million people watched.

The Nielsen rating is a much better indicator, and it had this game as the highest rated since the 1987 Super Bowl. Nielsen has its' problems though as well...most noteworthy is it counts a sports bar as one household, instead of the many sets of eyes that are actually watching.

Definitely Sean Payton's game plan. They did an incredible job of keeping the ball away from the Colts. Also Gregg Williams did a great job with the defensive scheme as well, esp the way they changed things up in the fourth quarter. I think it was a combination of things resulting in Manning getting uncharacteristically flustered.JackofDiamonds wrote:I think he was broken by Sean Payton. He didn't step on the field for nearly an hour. He took something like 6 snaps out of 40. Sean Payton took Peyton Manning out of the game with ball control. By the time he was back in, you could tell he was pressing, he wasn't sure when he'd get the ball again.lukethedrifter wrote:I don't think it has anything to do with being the favorite. Peyton had a tough game.
Did you not see the expression on his face well before the interception? He looked completely beat down and out of sorts.
That was a great game.

Excuses. If you need to make them to justify why Lord Manning couldn't shake hands with Brees, have at it. Oh, that mass of humanity he'd have to wade through.Spider John wrote:Socnorb11 wrote:I would have preferred that he shook hands before he left. I won't defend him for that. I'm liking all of the columnists who are condemning Manning's whole career and calling him a choker because of one interception on a drive late in the game.

Especially when it wasn't his fault. Wayne picks up the blitz, he's ready for that dump pass. Instead, he turned after he saw the DB break to intercept the pass.

Re: Teh Super Bowl thread
Manning left the field without seeing Brees.
“I’ll certainly talk to Drew,” Manning said. “There’s not much consolation for the guys that didn’t win. There’s the stage being set up and the celebration.”
Manning wound up 31 for 45 for 333 yards and one touchdown. He finished one short of the Super Bowl record for completions set by Tom Brady(notes) and tied by Brees, though the one pass he threw to the Saints will be the one that fans remember.
“It’s kind of a play we’ve run a lot. Porter made a heck of play,” Manning said.
