When did you move to Iowa City, Mac? GK is a good source of info since he went to U. Chicago for grad school, JoD.Maclowery wrote:Unless you have a very high income, I don't recommend living downtown. I loved my time in Wicker Park, although I think Cronos didn't. Bucktown, Logan Square, and Rogers Park are cheaper and further out, and also still 'hip'. Maybe Cronos has a link to the thread he made before he moved up, it had a lot of good recommendations.
Good luck! Summer in Chicago was among the best times of my life.

Re: Chicago
Yeah I've got a thread in here somewhere about good places to live, find it through the search function.
I did live in Wicker Park first, and liked it okay but felt like I was paying too much for where I lived (a glorified basement with horribly, horribly insulated windows). Where I'm living now is more of a commute from downtown but I like the area a lot better: I'm a block from the lake and living right up near Loyola. Nice neighborhood, pretty reasonably priced, too.
Craigslist is your best friend as far as finding good prices; make sure you check for the utilities you need and perks you want and of course call them up first and get the details before you bank on a single place or not. Also make sure you get the move-in date right; I screwed this up a couple times and almost got left out in the cold.
Feel free to ask about any areas you find potentials in, either through here, the other older thread I mentioned, or PMs or whatnot. Good luck!

Definitely a nice place to go to watch a game, Cardinal fan-friendly environs and pretty good wings.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:The only useful info I have regarding Chicago:
