Re: Holy [expletive] SLU
Looks like Reed is not coming back.
http://www.stltoday.com/sports/college/ ... f552c.htmlFormer St. Louis University center Willie Reed is heading home and is looking to continue his basketball career at Kansas State, according to his father.
"We're here at Kansas State right now and we're in the process of being enrolled," Reed Sr. told the Post-Dispatch by phone on Friday.
K-State, in Manhattan, Kan., is about two hours west of where Reed grew up in Kansas City. The Wildcats finished 29-8 last season and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
It's a quick change for Reed. He and teammate Kwamain Mitchell were no longer enrolled at SLU as of Wednesday after, according to sources, the university's student conduct committee suspended them for a year, a sentence that was reduced to a semester, amid allegations of a sexual assault.
According to Mitchell's lawyer, the point guard will be allowed to return in January if he meets certain requirements. Reed Sr. said that his son had done nothing wrong and wouldn't apply for readmission. Reed Jr. asked for and received permission from SLU to talk to other schools.
Under NCAA rules, if Reed enrolls at K-State and begins going to classes when the school's second term begins Jan. 18, he would be eligible after one year. That means he could be eligible for the second half of next season. Reed was an honorable mention All-Atlantic 10 selection and was SLU's leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, behind Mitchell.
When Reed chose to go to SLU, he said that he had interest from Big 12 schools. A KSU spokesman said he hadn't heard of Reed's transferring.

I'm shocked they didn't get preferential treatment. I thought they were off the hook so I wasn't going to go to any games this year as my way of protesting, but I suppose I will afterall.
On the other side, the girl was allowed to bring a lawyer to the school hearing and the players were not allowed a lawyer. I've never heard of SLU allowing a student to bring a lawyer to a hearing, and I know of cases just as serious as this 1 where no side was allowed to bring a lawyer. In 1 case, a student brought a lawyer without notifying the school and the school flipped out. Inside info says SLU already determined they were going to suspend the two players before they were even given a chance to testify. I know SLU isn't a public court, but still somewhat unfair. Really when the story broke last year I wasn't surprised at all just based on behavior you'd see from some of the players at parties and knowing girls who received numerous harassing text messages from players as well as one instance where individuals from the team barged into a girl's room and demanded sex (she managed to get them out of her apartment).

I was at a party over the summer and met Christian Salecich. Really happy, friendly, nice chill guy. Couldn't imagine him as one of those.cards2468 wrote:I'm shocked they didn't get preferential treatment. And yeah SLU's self-governed court system is complete bull. I'm sure there's enough on this forum already about it. The whole goal is to gain community service hours statistics they can use as a selling point to the public. It's not about adequate punishment for offenses, the whole system definitely does not revolve around "What would Jesus do?"
And this may be expecting a lot, but these players should have researched the school. From my experience at SLU and visiting other colleges, state schools have way, way more promiscuous women if that's what they wanted on the side.

SLU has definitely taken a few steps back with the loss of Mitchell and Reed. The new freshman look promising, but it will be 1-2 years before we're back to where we were last year.
Here's hoping Mitchell will be back in January.

Western Illinois' RPI should go up if they hold on to beat Savannah State on the road.

Going to the game tomorrow, court side seats with my friends. BTW, SLU lost 64-62 to Austin Peay on Saturday.

Yeah that loss was pretty bad. Wasn't there but I heard as much from one of my friends who got thrown out of the game. Apparently when your team is playing poorly starting a "No means Go" chant is a little too much.
