ugh awesome; he obv can't make a lot since of his age/posting rules, but all the best Japanese players are following the Ohtani train to LAD (and taking less money to do so; again I know Roki doesn't have a choice on his contract)

glad the cards aren't even trying so I don't have to pay attention to MLB this year

kind of like what Messi and MLS are doing...it doesn't even make it fun as a fan of another team, when all the best players from the world only want play for one team...and that's a league with a salary cap lol (granted a [expletive] weird and confusing one that's not really a "salary cap")

The San Diego Union-Tribune’s Kevin Acee reports the Padres and manager Mike Shildt are finalizing a contract extension through 2027.
It’s a two-year extension for Shildt, who helped lead San Diego back to the postseason last year in his first season at the helm, finishing the regular season with a strong 93-69 record. The 56-year-old skipper received a two-year deal when he was hired last November to take over after Bob Melvin left for the division-rival Giants.

Good for Shildt. He deserves it.

I believe he was the last remaining member of the 2016 team?

Cardinals signed RHP Michael Gomez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Gomez, 28, spent last year in the Tampa Bay organization. He posted a 5.04 ERA, but did post a solid 10.9 K/9 over his 39 appearances. He’ll likely provide depth at the higher levels for St. Louis, but a good showing in the Grapefruit League could see him make the Cardinals’ bullpen to begin 2025.

I thought after a 90+ win season and a playoff appearance you were supposed to fire your manager.
