What about keeping a great/good/decent player on the bench for the entirety of the game until he is needed in a crucial point of the contest (perhaps we call it a "pinch"), who can then replace the player at bat?

I think baseball should also adopt a rule where at least one player on each team should come to the plate with a horn , a rubber nose, and big shoes .

This rule needs to be literal. Yes it's your best hitter and yes he has to use a gold bat. Solid 24 karat. Make him earn that contact.
