The fan who caught Pujols' home run ball said he wasn't opposed to giving it back to Pujols, but he decided to keep it. The Tigers announced the ball can't be authenticated by Major League Baseball.

Pujols told reporters he wasn't upset that the fan kept the ball.

"He can keep it," Pujols said. "It's a great memory for him. I mean we play this game for the fans, and it's a piece of history that he's going to have for the rest of his life."

He might have the memory of catching the ball but I seriously doubt he has the actual ball for the rest of his life. I guess the value of it dropped because it can't be authenticated now but somebody will still pay for it and the cynical a-hole in me says that the guy will sell it before long.

I still don't understand why it couldn't have been initially and then returned to the guy though.

If he goes in as an Angel, that'll be the weirdest cap choice in the HOF.

Pujols is viewed as an overpaid failure by Angels fans. Not many will make the trip to Cooperstown. He won't go in as an Angel.

Tigers fan was offered stuff by both the Tigers and the Angels, but was told that he had to make a decision because the Angels were leaving town. Perhaps he felt rushed. I would have given it to Pujols in exchange for an autographed baseball from Pujols, with him writing “2000 RBI.”

Then what are we even doing here? Without people being absolutely sure about something they know nothing about, this whole Internet thing kind of falls apart.

I would ask for a king's ransom for any baseball or item.
