After years spent insisting he would never throw a no-hitter, on August 14, 1971, Bob Gibson told catcher Joe Torre that he thought he might throw a no-hitter that day. Then he went out and did it:

On August 18, 1995, Tom Henke became the seventh pitcher in baseball history to reach 300 saves when he pitched the final inning in a 4-3 win over the Braves:

13 years ago today, the Cardinals signed John Smoltz with an eye toward bolstering their postseason pitching depth. See why it was a perfect match for the team and for Smoltz:

Smoltz had a nice little stint with the Cardinals. I remember thinking we should have coaxed another year out of him.

41 years ago today, Garry Templeton and fans at Busch Stadium engaged in a heated confrontation that ultimately led to Templeton being traded to San Diego for Ozzie Smith:
