On this date in 1966, the Cardinals made a deal with the Giants to acquire Orlando Cepeda. Cepeda led the Cardinals to the 1967 World Series championship and was a unanimous NL MVP selection after batting .325 with 25 homers and a league-high 111 RBIs:

On this date in 1967, as Roger Maris emerged from the dugout in the sixth inning of a 6-3 win over the Pirates, first baseman Orlando Cepeda told Maris he was going to hit a home run. Maris proved the first baseman correct, hitting his first blast as a Cardinal:
