You can have both though so, no it isn't really addressed. Why not take advantage of having a LOOGY? Situational pitching is bigger now than ever.
because...my first sentence...

there's not a LHP that we have, that's better than Miller (who is a LHP), Reyes, and Hicks at the back end of the bullpen when those matchups matter

Except when those pitchers aren't available. Except when you've used those pitchers in the game already. Except in ties when you need to save them for extras.

Even teams with monster pens like Brewers had multiple lefty options and a loogy-types (Jennings). And they even had Hader.

So, who’s this magical LHP that we have to be placed on the roster, and who are you leaving off as we’re keeping a 12 man staff?

The bigger question is why haven't they done a better job of clearing space on the 40 man. Some of those players need to be moved.

9 guys aren't on the active roster. Wieters takes Shreve's spot but they can easily move on from Webb or Gregerson and a couple of others on the 40. I see no reason to have Gyorko, Robinson, AND Munoz so a short bench could be in order for another lefty too considering Wieters can actually see some pinch hitting.

The first series with the Brewers will need more than just Andrew Miller against their good lefties.

I think this is where the AAAA starters and Memphis shuttle crew fill in the gaps. Seems more likely than the team shelling out more $ for a FA LOOGY type.

They should add Layne at the very least. We know Brebbia will get a spot and we know Mayers and Gant are sort of stuck on the roster.

Matchups matter.

Cardinals placed INF Jedd Gyorko on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain.
Gyorko was limited to just 10 plate appearances this spring because of the calf issue. He should be ready to join the Cards' bench sometime in April.

Cardinals placed RHP Luke Gregerson on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
It's the same injury that caused him to miss most of last season and all of this spring training. Gregerson has been throwing off a mound, so he wouldn't seem to be too far off from being ready for a rehab assignment.

Cardinals placed RHP Carlos Martinez on the 10-day injured list with a right rotator cuff strain.
Martinez didn't make an appearance during spring training, although he resumed throwing a couple weeks ago. He dealt with shoulder issues last season, as well, although no structural damage has been found. It's unclear how long Martinez will be sidelined and also what role he'll have upon his return, as the Cards haven't committed to him starting or relieving.

Cardinals placed LHP Brett Cecil on the 10-day injured list with left hand Carpal Tunnel syndrome.
Cecil has also had issues with his mechanics this spring after he lost 42 pounds over the offseason. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined.

Cardinals finalize their 25-man roster after tonight's game:

LHP Tyler Webb optioned to Memphis

RHP Chris Beck, LHP Tommy Layne, OF Dylan Carlson, 1B Rangel Ravelo, 3B Tommy Edman, and Catchers Andrew Knizner and Francisco Pena were re-assigned to MiLB Camp.

Expect MiLB team rosters to start trickling out next week as MiLB schedules are a full week behind MLB schedules.
