I don’t mind it either, but we’re talking about a few months of Bumgarner.

Cardinals sure take their time on those promotions. Even if he does, I see a year or two of up and down trips before being a starting lineup mainstay. Earliest for that is 2021 with 2022 more likely. Just look at Bader, O'Neill, Grichuk, any of our OF the past few years, etc. But if they think he's a diamond in the rough DeJong type, then fine, I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Carlson is a first round pick who has hit AA at age 20. I'm not sure where the "diamond in the rough" vibe you're throwing out on him comes from. His stat lines haven't been awesome, but age vs. level vs. overall production has always been very encouraging, as have the underlying peripherals. He's climbed fast because of it but he shouldn't be sneaking up on prospect analysts. They've seen this coming.

Good article at VEB on him - https://www.vivaelbirdos.com/2019/5/19/ ... -timetable

He's going to have to sign somewhere and I would give the Cardinals as good odds as any, especially if he has a chance to play with us awhile. We're a good fit for his personality.

It's a longshot acquisition, but MadBum probably won't be the only SP on the market worth taking a shot at. An arm with a year under control would be the most likely path we take. I have no suggestions. Too early to really know who is on the market. And if our current starters don't figure things out, it won't matter because we'll be out of it before the trade season really opens up.

Bumgarner has been not great in a pitchers park. Why do we want him?

*whispers loudly* Dallas Keuchel is available

Do we even want Mo to trade an OF? Piscotty, Grichuk, and Pham. An OF most teams would enjoy having now in 2019 have netted the worst of Leone’s career, a replaceable bench player, and a bunch of scrubs that’ll see very little MLB action. Mo’s acquisitions the past half decade have been atrocious, obviously, and while I love Ozuna and Goldy (though even that trade is TBD), maybe stop giving away all your assets.

They have to know they need to spend the money and sign someone or make a trade, the season is falling apart in front of them

No it wasn't. It was stupid.

I side with Max on that one.

Bumgarner (kind of) admits he was being dumb:
Said Bumgarner, who allowed only one other splash homer in his career: "I can’t even say it with a straight face. The more I think about it, I should just let the kids play That’s what everybody is saying, but I can’t. He just struck a pose and walked further than I liked. That’s fine. If you want to do that, do it, but I’m going to do what I want to do. They want to let everybody be themselves. Let me be myself. That’s me. I’d just as sooner fight than walk or whatever. Just do your thing. I’ll do mine."
