Steve Adams's NL Central comments

Post by mikechamp »

These comments came from a chat with MLB Trade Rumors' Steve Adams that occurred on March 24. (If you like him, you can find him on Twitter @Adams_Steve.)

Doth Theo trade for Lindor now?

Steve Adams
The Cubs have spent like $5M combined in the past two winters and have a bottom-10 farm system. Lindor isn't going to the Cubs.

(He's not going anywhere prior to Opening Day, for that matter.)

With no spring training and no season (yet) do the players still get paid? If so, how do small market teams like the Reds, Royals, Pirates, etc. survive with no revenue?

Steve Adams
Player compensation is one of the primary issues being debated between the MLB and MLBPA right now.

What's happening with spring opt-outs? You said last week you were going to look into it didn't you?

Steve Adams
From what I've gathered -- most clubs are being somewhat flexible and agreeing to push back spring opt-out dates if the player doesn't plan to use them or is uncertain of wishing to do so. Pirates, Phillies, Blue Jays are among the clubs doing this -- Royals, perhaps, as well. We'll probably write something on this in the next day or two.

Gut feeling ... are we playing meaningful ball by Memorial Day?

Steve Adams
Nope.
