I'm glad this is the last year of Cecil's contract.

I hope the Cardinals do not hand out those type of contracts for marginal relievers going forward. Seems like you can get similar performance from the kids.
Everyone [expletive] on the Cecil contract, but honestly, I don't get it. Yes it's been terrible from 2018 on, but he was quite good for us in 2017. And when he was signed, he was the best reliever on the market and he had been dominating the AL East with the Blue Jays for the past couple of years.

It's not like Mo signed him to that contract immediately after he posted an 8.00 ERA season. I'd have preferred it to have only been a 3 year contract instead of 4 years, but I don't think we had any reliable lefty options in house to use.
Agreed.

He was coming off of 4 years of 2.90 ERA 2.73 FIP pitching.

Then he broke. It happens.

Relievers always break though, which is kinda the point. Long term deals for relievers will bite you in the ass 90% of the time. Those are pretty bad odds to make a big bet on.

It was a bad deal, as was Andrew Miller’s. Let’s hope the Cardinals have learned their lesson.

Greg Holland and Luke Gregerson come to mind. We don't do well with free agent reliever signings.

Bud Norris helped get Matheny fired though, so maybe that signing worked out.

Michael Wacha is building up to be a member of the Mets' rotation.

Not a big surprise, but worth noting. As Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports, Wacha's role became more defined after Noah Syndergaard underwent Tommy John reconstructive surgery on his right elbow. While once a promising starter who showed flashes of brilliance with the Cardinals, he doesn't likely have much fantasy upside for the 2020 campaign.

I can't lie, even as the world crumbles and burns around me, it's [expletive] good just reading about stupid ass intrasquad games again.

I can't see Carlos holding up in the rotation in a normal 162 game season but it being a shortened season is to his benefit. As long as he's passable for about 10 starts this season then he can have value.

Bard Miller has "a little something in his heel," per Cardinals manager Mike Shildt.

It doesn't sound like anything that should affect Miller's readiness for Opening Day. He is an infield depth piece and possible DH option for St. Louis leading into MLB's planned 60-game campaign.
