Very weird. Second Chicago team to fire him. But this was surprising, considering they had a great season

Was he an [expletive] or something? Because they just went from 17 games under .500 to 10 games over (in a short season) with solid performances from good young talent.

Renteria has a rep for being great at building teams with young players; the Cubs dumped him when Joe Maddon became available and they wanted to be more splashy. Not sure why the Sox would have a problem with him. Maybe they are going to hire Ron Roeniecke.

According to Nightengale (I know), it's because they didn't like his bullpen management down the stretch.CardsofSTL wrote: ↑October 12 20, 9:51 amRenteria has a rep for being great at building teams with young players; the Cubs dumped him when Joe Maddon became available and they wanted to be more splashy. That's about as good an explanation as we will probably get; even though it sounds like BS.Magneto2.0 wrote: ↑October 12 20, 10:41 amAccording to Nightengale (I know), it's because they didn't like his bullpen management down the stretch.CardsofSTL wrote: ↑October 12 20, 9:51 amRenteria has a rep for being great at building teams with young players; the Cubs dumped him when Joe Maddon became available and they wanted to be more splashy. Supposedly the White Sox are thinking about TLR. That... seems like a bad idea.
