I was at a football game in 1993 or 94 between the Air Force Academy and San Diego State. On the way to the concession stand at halftime, Tommy walks right by me. I called out to him and he responded with the exuberance that you would expect from Tommy . Asked why he was at this game and he said the Air Force asked him to give the pre-game pep talk. You could tell that he was very honored. He was on his way back to Denver for the series with the Rockies.
RIP Tommy Lasorda.

He was a true baseball icon. We sure have lost a lot of them recently, sadly.

The White Sox must be scrambling to figure out their new succession plan.

A first ballot Blumpkin Hall of Famer.
I knew if I opened this thread I would be blessed with a blumpkin reference. This is a good website.

I didn't know the story about Lasorda and his son. It's pretty hard to read, honestly.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/11/spor ... a-son.html
“My son wasn’t gay,” Lasorda told Peter Richmond, who wrote about the duo’s complicated relationship for GQ magazine in 1992, in some of his few public comments about his son.

“No way,” he continued, with some expletives sprinkled in. “No way. I read that in a paper. I also read in that paper that a lady gave birth to a monkey, too. That’s not the truth.”

Lasorda also rankled at reports that his son was an AIDS patient. He told Richmond, “I don’t care what people … I know what my son died of. I know what he died of. The doctor put out a report of how he died. He died of pneumonia.”
