Waino named w/r/t recv'ing ball-doctoring substances

Post by Jocephus »

Former Angels clubhouse attendant Brian Harkins has named Gerrit Cole, among others, as players he supplied ball-doctoring substances to prior to his firing last March.

Harkins filed suit against the Angels and Major League Baseball last August, alleging that he was unfairly made a scapegoat as the league cracked down on pitchers' use of ball-doctoring substances. Defendants filed a motion to dismiss Harkins' case in November and a January 21 hearing has been scheduled to determine whether it will move forward. In addition to Cole, Harkins has also identified Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Corey Kluber, Felix Hernandez and Adam Wainwright, among others, as players he has supplied his substance -- which is a blend of rosin and pine tar -- to. While technically against the rules, pitchers using substances to get a better grip on the ball is generally viewed as common practice and accepted throughout the league. It seems unlikely that any of the aforementioned pitchers will face any kind of discipline.

Bauer is another guy. Though maybe not tied directly to this whistleblower.

Bauer happily admits to it though, right? And this "extra grip" thing is garbage. It's to make it easier for pitchers to strike people out.

Got me wondering if that story about his wife helping "find his curveball, again" is really true..

Probably why the Angels fired him. If the Angels’ pitchers were getting any help, they sure weren’t showing it.

You can't put anything on the balls while you're on the mound with all of the TV cameras on you. So are they saying that they have someone going and rubbing up possibly 100 baseballs that might get used in a game? Since its not like they give the umpire different balls to give out for Waino when he's on the mound than any other pitcher pitching in that particular game. And i doubt you would be able to do that to the balls in an away stadium.
