Re: Mike Shannon retiring after 2021 season
I remember being in a ginormous line waiting to get into Busch II for a random game that I had tickets for that turned out to be Mcgwire bobblehead night. This car swings up and out pops Mike Shannon. He takes one look at the line and says "What the hell is this, bobblehead night?" He then magically maneuvered through the crowd and was gone into the stadium. He's the coolest

Young Mike Shannon's a good looking dude. Hard to imagine what he'd sound like at that age though.

Shannon and Buck were absolutely the best duo in my obviously biased opinion. What a great team they made. And, Shannon was brilliant in his own right with his Shannonisms and simple humorous similes. It's unlikely we'll see another one come along from the same ilk....which is a shame. He was incredibly entertaining and plenty insightful enough to keep me listening.

Mike is the perfect announcer for me. I’m not a super emotional watcher unless it’s a big game. I watch to relax and have fun, not to get stressed and angry and he’s perfect for that. Rooney style announcers annoy me. Danny Mac is fine and about as far down that road as I can tolerate.

I think this is a good point. Shannon puts individual at-bats or moments in the game in perspective--in the context of the game itself, or within the contour of a season, or a player's career. Rooney has gotten overly excited about so many routine plays that I take every call of his with a grain of salt.ghostrunner wrote: ↑January 18 21, 9:39 pmMike is the perfect announcer for me. I noticed Shannon's voice seemed dragging and weak when listening to a game the other day. Now I understand why.

Hummel ends that article with another Shannonism "if you’re going to step on your bottom lip . . . you’re just wasting time.”
