Ted missed the better part of 5 seasons serving our country, including 3 in his prime from ages 24-26. So he missed these so-called “beer league guys”. And he still put up 122 WAR w 521 homers and a 1.116 OPS/191 OPS+.

Color me [expletive] impressed.

I know this thread is supposed to be about Trout, but this is a good reminder that Ted Williams once hit .406/.553/.735 for an entire season. (And hilariously did not win MVP, thanks to DiMaggio's hitting streak.)
WW2 stricken league with no POC players. Meh......... Williams was hitting off guys barely above Beer League Softball level. Let's be real.

What Trout's doing... against guys throwing 99-101 semi regularly, is WAY more impressive.
1941 season was prior to WW2 for the Americans (Pearl Harbor was 12/7/1941).

Comparing across eras is always going to be problematic. Trout faces tougher competition, but is also aided by modern equipment, videos, nutrition and strength training, etc. Saying who had it easier or tougher is a futile exercise. You can assign whatever levels of impressiveness that you desire. Williams was still light years ahead of his competition in 1941.

I think the issue with Big Amoco Sign's post is that Williams wasn't being compared to his peers - just the white ones who happened to not have died in the War. It's been a while, but BP once did a thing about how leagues now were X percent "better" than they were back in the day of the wild records (like Williams, Cobb and Ruth set).

Yeah I got the dates wrong on that. Not the war but when I thought the Williams .400 year was, I'll remember to fact check instead of going off memory.

I still am more impressed with Trout. It's all subjective though, you are correct.

Mike Trout is going to pass Albert Pujols career WAR soon. That’s insane to me.
