What's red, white and the first team to do something since the 2000 Giants? That'd be the 2021 Cardinals, who, after Nolan Arenado's game-tying three-run blast on Monday, became the first team since that San Francisco squad to rattle off a three-run homer in five consecutive games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. No Cardinals team had ever done it before. What's more, the first three in the streak dating back to Thursday -- two from Matt Carpenter and one by Justin Williams -- were of the pinch-hit variety. Had the Cardinals hit a pinch-hit homer in Saturday's win over the Pirates, they would have been the first team in the Modern Era to hit a pinch-hit homer in four consecutive games, also per Elias.

Good thing we won yesterday. Hopefully deGrom's poor luck continues.

Any offense at all would be nice. And really, getting some offense might just result in runs. Jake hasnt been getting any sort of run support, so we might moonwalk into a win.

What I'm really looking for today is progress for Johan. He's got the tools, and getting 6 innings out of him today would be great. This is a game we really need Molina behind the plate. It's almost like he should be granted player/coach status during his injuries. I dont have a feel for how players take to Maddux's groping, but Yadi would have easily the same impact as a pitching coach; especially a young latin guy. But I digress with this particular injury, because Molina is likely to be spending little time on his feet.

The New York Mets are 5-8 on the road this season and are heavy favorites to beat the St. Louis Cardinals who are 8-6 at home. The Mets have a better than 60% chance of winning based on 10,000 game simulations generated one play at a time by the AccuScore Simulation Supercomputer. Mets\' starter Jacob deGrom is forecasted to have a better game than Cardinals\' starter Johan Oviedo. Jacob deGrom has a 47% chance of having a Quality Start (QS) while Johan Oviedo has a 35% chance of a QS. If Jacob deGrom has a quality start the Mets has a 77% chance of winning. His simulated strikeout to walk ratio is 8.2 and he has a 56% chance of having a 5 to 1 K/BB ratio. When he has a 5/1 ratio the Mets win 70%. In Johan Oviedo quality starts the Cardinals win 51%. He has a 24% chance of having a 5 to 1 K/BB ratio and if he does his team wins 51% of simulations. In simulations we tracked the batter for each team that was most productive based his average hits, walks and RBI per simulation. The most productive batter for the St. Louis Cardinals is Nolan Arenado who averaged 2.02 hits+walks+RBI. He has a 33% chance of having a big game with 3+ Hits, Walks, RBI and if he has a big game the Cardinals have a 46% chance of winning. The most productive batter for the New York Mets is Pete Alonso who averaged 2.44 hits+walks+RBI. He has a 41% chance of having a big game with 3+ Hits, Walks, RBI and if he has a big game the Mets have a 82% chance of winning.

I guess I don't need an A.S.S. to tell me this.

Injury updates

Yadier Molina, C (right foot tendon strain)
On IL since: April 27
Molina will be evaluated as the week progresses, still yet to resume baseball activities after he exited an April 23 start and then landed on the IL following one more attempt to play through the ailment. Molina posted an image of himself in a walking boot last week but is said to be improving by the day.

Miles Mikolas, RHP (right shoulder discomfort)
On IL since: Opening Day
Mikolas’ long road to return is nearing an end, and he is set for a rehab start with Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. Mozeliak forecasted that he will need three to four starts there. Mikolas hasn’t appeared in a game since the 2019 NLCS (surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his right forearm last July, shoulder discomfort in Spring Training) and is currently taking the biggest steps in his rehab thus far.

Daniel Ponce de Leon, RHP (right shoulder inflammation)
On IL since: April 30
The most encouraging news of the day was for Ponce de Leon, who is set to receive an injection to reduce the inflammation in his right shoulder. The good news is that Mozeliak said there are no structural concerns, and now it’s just a wait-and-see to allow the ailment to subside.

John Nogowski, 1B (left hand bone bruise)
On IL since: April 23
Nogowksi is at Busch Stadium this week, working out with the team before a rehab assignment with Memphis on Thursday or Friday to wrap up his rehab, which dates all the way back to an April 7 hit-by-pitch that he proceeded to play through. His return will be welcome with the current dearth of right-handed bench bats on the active roster.

Andrew Miller, LHP (right foot toe blister)
On IL since: April 30
Miller has yet to receive the green light to resume baseball activities, with the ailment impacting his landing foot on the mound.

Dakota Hudson, RHP (Tommy John surgery)
On IL since: Opening Day
Furthest out from a return, Hudson is said to be progressing well from his September 2020 Tommy John surgery, in the early part of his throwing program and “in a good spot mentally,” Mozeliak said. Hudson has stated his desire to return by September, but the club will wait until the later stages of the summer before committing to any semblance of a firm timeline.

Oviedo is the secret to beating deGrom's A.S.S.
