How many minor league players are there, 3000? An annual $10k stipend for better room and food costs each team an additional $1m annually. Hiring 1-2 full time chefs for each minor league team to make high quality food would be a drop in the bucket.
This seems like a no-brainer from a developmental and morale perspective.
They have no representation and neither side cares about them in negotiations.
I’d like to think if I were a business owner and I had a cost center that didn’t bring revenue I’d be prudent, but also would hope to understand there are development opportunities worth investing in.
Owners view it as 99% won’t ever add value to the club. But they do allow the 1% to get cheap reps to develop into assets at the MLB level. Maybe just make it livable for the 99% and gain a fraction of goodwill with the 1%?
Not how rich businessmen look at it though. You’re cattle at your corporate job as well and are paid only as much as the job market requires to keep you.
