Pitchers contend such substances are useful for grip in order to know where the ball is going, but hit-by-pitches are at their highest rate in the majors in the past 100 years, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

I know a few umps who are going to have fun doing this.
Enforcing on someone like John Means who is touching 20 things on his body between every pitch will be easier than someone like Bauer who is very intentionally subtle and has a special glove made for it.
You can see pine tar and sunscreen on the ball but some stuff doesn't stay on the ball as much as it does on the hands.

This, for ever. The garbage "it helps with accuracy, and hitters are okay with that" take has to end.CardsofSTL wrote: ↑June 4 21, 1:48 pmThis sentence right hereBig Amoco Sign wrote: ↑June 4 21, 1:35 pmJesse Rogers reported umpires are now allowed to crack down on foreign substances. I don't have a problem with Cole being identified as the poster boy since he was caught on recording asking for Spider Tack, while also acknowledging that everyone is doing this.
