Shohei Ohtani Appreciation Thread

Post by heyzeus »

What he's doing is just insane. When I was a kid I would make my own baseball cards of myself and put cartoonishly gaudy numbers on them. 85 home runs, 200 RBI, .430 BA, but also I threw 30 complete game shutouts and broke Gibson's ERA record.

That's kinda Ohtani now. 2.7 WAR as a hitter, 1.2 WAR as a pitcher. 12.3 K/9, 2.70 ERA. Tied for the MLB lead in homers. Also has stolen 10 bags (3 CS), .996 OPS, and routinely hits moon shot, highlight reel dingers.

Dude's a straight up treasure in this game. Please stay healthy.

I am going to see him in a couple weeks when they play the Mariners.

It's a shame he's wasted on the Angels. They don't deserve him.

Another guy Manfred needs to sink his money into marketing instead of worrying about pine tar and extra innings.

Yes. This.

There have been guys who can pitch well and hit a little. There have been guys who can hit well and pitch a little. But what Ohtani's doing is Babe Ruth, but Babe Ruth never had to face the best players from the entire world, or even the entire population of his own country.

Ohtani is better than Babe Ruth because the Babe basically stopped pitching once he became a Yankee. And only had one really good pitching season and a couple okay ones. Definitely agree on the other points.

Manfred thinks marketing is the players' responsibility, not his.

Shohei Ohtani will pitch and bat second for the Angels on Wednesday afternoon against the Giants.

The game is being played at Angel Stadium, an American League park, and this is the first time ever that an AL team has the pitcher hitting while an NL team is using the DH. Ohtani has registered a .996 OPS with 23 home runs in 276 plate appearances this year while also pitching to a 2.70 ERA and 12.3 K/9 in 10 starts.

It's unprecedented. At a time when talent league-wide has never been higher. Crazy.

He did his part

They lost, and he did go 0-3 at the plate, but…Went 6 innings and only gave up 1 run with 9 SO
