No. Oviedo couldn't get through the fifth inning, and left with the bases loaded. Helsley got out of the jam and picked up the win.

I was out and about and couldn't watch the game. I like Oviedo, I think he could be a real force for us in a year or so.

Shildt pretty much summed it up in the postgame, "enough of the sheet umpiring". These clowns aren't being held accountable.

He's at least been improving in his last couple starts. Got to cut down on the walks.Famous Mortimer wrote: ↑July 25 21, 4:59 pm

I know this is crazy, but it feels like someone has been daring the Cardinals that they can't set a walks / HBP record. Who knows why, but if Oviedo could cut em, I think he could be great.CardsofSTL wrote: ↑July 25 21, 5:00 pmHe's at least been improving in his last couple starts. His steep pitch count by the fifth likely hurt him.CardsofSTL wrote: ↑July 25 21, 5:00 pmHe's at least been improving in his last couple starts. Got to cut down on the walks.Famous Mortimer wrote: ↑July 25 21, 4:59 pm

I do root for the guy. He's supposed to have a good demeanor and learns quickly, but this is the most brutal on-the-job training he could get. Getting Mikolas and Flaherty back would give him the opportunity of a few starts in Memphis before September.

I don't think they're on the take as much as they just don't give a damn. But every performance like this will just mean a few less people to get upset on their behalf when MLB has the technology in place to have robot umps.
