If some allstars want to go barnstorming across America during a strike, that would be cool. I’d go see that. Drum up some support!

Players over a handful of lucky 30 people. All day. Oh and [expletive] Manfred. That video made me dislike him more than I thought I could.

But this is cool:

Just for the sake of argument, does baseball really need to be what it was or even is now to be successful? Even minor league teams seem to do well. The one here does anyway. Does MLB depend on devoted fans or more on casual fans - families and groups of people looking to kill an afternoon and who may not be invested in the sanctity of the game or whatever would be destroyed by a strike. I’m not sure, just asking.

I think all they need is the ad money which they will get from meaningful games. They’re going to bring total games to 120-140 range my guess. Anthony Rizzo and many others are vocal about “playing too much.” To me that’s just an argument to expand rosters. But they’ll [expletive] the game up. Mickey Mouse league from here on out.

To answer your question, no I don’t think MLB needs the devoted crowd. Because I think they’ll still stick around anyway just enough to keep the TV money rolling in.

If they're going to expand the post-season, they might as well reduce the regular season, because they're increasingly meaningless.

This surprises me a bit but it’s also a poll of Athletic subscribers, who I assume are a bit more in tune with this issue. I don’t subscribe or read it, but that seems a safe assumption. Even so, surprised it’s this high and higher than blackouts.
