Dewitt selling the team is irrelevant. The next owner will be a businessman, too.Superorganism wrote: ↑November 25 21, 7:51 amI still think the cardinals sign a pitcher of greater consequence. Too much uncertainty in the rotation and Mo likes the lineup. If $11 million is what they meant by “flexing payroll muscle”, we’re [expletive] until DeWitt sells the team

Matz is the first domino to fall. Next domino: make sure that Webb winds up on every other team just ahead of a series with the Cardinals.

Irrational exuberance is my favorite part of fanboydom.heyzeus wrote: ↑November 25 21, 8:32 amI still think we sign Stroman too, and Hudson starts the season as the swing man. That’s my hope at least. Now that would be an intriguing rotation.
I’m feeling kinda fanboy these days. We have an excellent young OF. Arenado and Goldy at the corners. Yepez and Gorman could both make the roster with a good spring. Liberatore looming. Maybe I’m having irrational exuberance,

Yepez and Gorman only make Arenado and Goldschmidt play better too. Knowing they have young replacements if needed. The fans win.

I don’t know how Gorman is defensively. But Yepez seems more like a DH to put it kindly.

Below are his contract expectations on fangraphs. It appears he was willing to take less AAV for an extra year. I'm fine with this contract and doesn't seem like an overpay. I want more/bigger moves, but he's certainly an arm we can use.

Such a small nothing salary. Significantly less than Mikolas and he signed his extension two seasons prior. Get a tier 1 pitcher now Mo.

I assume the Cardinals are awaiting until Monday to have a press conference and finalize the Matz deal, not wanting to make it official during a holiday weekend.
