PitchCom in MLB

Post by MinorLeagueGuy »

What is PitchCom?

MLB is testing PitchCom, a device worn on the wrist by catchers that allows them to communicate pitch info to the pitcher and three other players on the field. The device is customizable and its keypad allows a catcher to punch a button that would send verbal signs to those wearing the hearing apparatus.

Also, all 4 infielders will have units in their hats.

Cardinals infield: What's the sign?!
Kriptopoulin: Time is money, and money eats time. Paper beats rock. Women inherit the Earth.

We going to see pitchers point to their ear with a runner on 2nd in loud stadium settings, as opposed to the "repeat the signs" finger gesture; catcher cranks the volume to 11.

Was watching a bit of the A’s game and found the pitchcom machinations super annoying. Pitcher had to hold his hand to his ear and have the command repeated and ended up signaling too anyway.

Still wondering if infielders can use this without base runners hearing.

Knizner was using it the other day. Not sure if he will use it all the time or is just going with what that day's starting pitcher is comfortable with.
