Not impressed with Liberatore’s outing, Needs to work on his third pitch.
He doesn’t miss bats much. And they are rarely grounders.
Let’s give Thompson an audition now.

Gorman really gets his money's worth. He's got the kind of bat speed that's even fast in slow motion.

Optimistic Cards Fan: The Cardinals young hitters have looked really good so far this year. Do you think the Cardinals are potentially a top 5 hitting team with the infusion of these hitters plus there veteran hitters or is the team in a just played the Pirates and is actually pretty average at hitting spot?
Ben Clemens: I tihnk it’s a bit of both. The Pirates are really bad!
Ben Clemens: But Yepez and Gorman are good hitters. I really didn’t understand junking up the DH spot with veterans for a team with a lot of bat-first names near the majors. I get that it’s Pujols and the nostalgia is cool, and I’m even okay with that, but if it weren’t for the fact that he’s a living legend, I would have liked to see them sign no one and platoon rookies at DH
Jake: Thoughts on Liberatore’s first outing?
Ben Clemens: Didn’t catch it, but watched some highlights. PItches looked good, hard to calibrate things given he was facing the Pirates. I’m a bit worried about his command though

He nibbled too much. Command wasn't there. Obviously it was one game, but I think it's pretty clear his stuff isn't electric enough to not need to master that.

Re: Gorman and Liberatore up!
brad penny for your thoughts
putting your cards fan hat on, what are your initial opinions/thoughts of liberatore and gorman?
Ben Clemens
Gorman bops just like we expected. Liberatore shows flashes of pretty secondary stuff but isn't very efficient; I'm definitely higher on Gorman than Libby and I think the early evaluations match that. I still find Liberatore's pitch mix kinda confusing, they don't seem to pair well, but I'm gonna hold judgment for a while longer

Braydon
Any thoughts on the start of Nolan Gorman's MLB career?
Ben Clemens
Yeah, he seems largely like what I thought he'd be, strikeouts and power in a guy who at best is stretched as a second baseman
Would have packaged him up in a Soto deal so fast it'd make your head spin, but I think he's still got plenty of hitting upside if he can adjust a bit to how he's being pitched
He still has no defensive home, but the universal DH makes that less of an issue, particularly given that he's being used in a platoon mostly
