Catcher is a black hole after 19 seasons

Post by Big Amoco Sign »

Sure sounds like a change is going to be made if production output stays at the same rate.

Herrera I guess will be called up but not sure that will be “smart” or not for both him or the team.

Yadi is an abysmal 52 wRC+ at the plate. +3 DRS That's AA level offensive production.
Knizner isn't much better at 65 wRC+ -4 DRS

Something has to give. And soon.

Knizner shouldn't be the only thrown under the bus when its clear that Yadi isn't what he used to be either.

Yeah, this is very "unspoken rules" stuff. Can't criticize your veteran leader. Both Yadi and Knizner have been bad; only one of them is expendable/subject to criticism.

Agree but they might want to sign a Curt Casali type vet too.

This season is tough. Boy, Yadi and Knizner both need to see no lineup spot other than 9.

Will the Cardinals be able to be productive at catcher next year with just Herrera and Knizner? Or do you think you need to sign a veteran to play most of the time while Herrera is first proving he can handle the workload of a MLB starting catcher?

When Yadi plays he should be beatting 9th in the order also but they don't dare disrespect Yadi like that.

Yadi still an asset due to his defense (which includes pitch calling). So I think "black hole" is too strong.

But he is retiring at the right time.

That said, I will miss him dearly.

Defensive value isn’t enough to outdo 55 wRC+ IMO

I'll 2nd this, though I will add that I hope he doesn't go too far away. Leadership and experience like that doesn't grow on trees... unless it's a Cardinal tree.

:-P
