30 years ago when I was 13, I hit 84 mph on our high school radar gun. I threw smoke back in 1992 - 93.

I threw inot one of those pitching booths a couple of years ago. Topped out at 38 mph.
This is me. I threw 80ish in high school on the JV team.

Cannot top 60, maybe even 50 now.

I do think the radars in those are typically under the actual speed. For whatever reason.

Just for shizz and giggles, someone please make a video overlay of Eckstein and Cruz fielding similar plays.

Todd Worrell hung out with my highschool team a few times because his kids were there (a little younger than me) and he added about five mph to my fastball with one tip, which was "point your [expletive] at the catcher." Just like anything, hitting or throwing a punch or whatever, if your lower body makes a strong rotation your upper body doesn't really have a choice. Josh Donaldson says it's like a rubber band and he only thinks about his lower half when hitting.

Despite sitting comfortably in the 80s when I was 17-18 years old, if I even play catch these days my arm feels like it's going to fall off and there's just no snap on the ball.

One more thing, the craziest part of that Ichiro throw, is that it looked like it defied gravity. Like for sure it was going to one hop third base but it never touched the ground. Might've been partially a camera angle thing.

While we are discussing Pirates and throwing mechanics…. here is a friendly reminder of Roberto Clemente’s arm.

Such a cannon!

He made throws like that every day.

Too bad every game wasn't televised back then.

OF throws to the plate are one of my favorite plays to watch.

That particular swing kind of reminds me of a young Jason Heyward. He would hit line drives all over the place.

This is a fun one:

Gorman or Cruz, who would you rather have now, and going forward?

Gorman appears to hit for more power and more often. But Cruz has better plate discipline and defense. Both have good upside. Both in the top 20-30 range on most prospect boards.
