Situation is different. Last year would have been foolish to make a big trade, given our place in the standings.

This year, we are right there, and have a glaring need.

We’ve also had them in years past. I think the only major starting pitching acquisitions made in the Dewitt era are Kile and Mulder, maybe Lackey. Certainly Carpenter became one but that was a flyer. Wainwright was a development but of course not established.

I don't think the bullpen is the issue. Starting pitching is the issue. Our bullpen is tired from "opener" games and these Flaherty jokes.

A solid rotation will make the bullpen that much better by default.

SLAP tear is killing him and he needs to just do the surgery now. Pineda was able to carve out a decent amount of innings and career after his SLAP tear surgery. I cannot think of anyone else off the top of my head. But surgery seems better than no surgery. (If that's even an option, I don't know this)
