Soto who?
In all honesty, and with the disclaimer that I’ve seen very little of Ohtani, Soto gets me more excited for some reason.

Re: Ohtani on the block?
My only concern with Ohtani is he is 28. So if you need to extend him that big massive contract is going to start right as he starts to decline. Soto is 23 and likely has 10 years before any significant decline starts, around the same time that Ohtani is 38.

They finally realized they only have three good players, one of which is super-expensive and was just diagnosed with a rare back condition.

He leads Ohtani in CGAB, if you're into that.Pudgelewis wrote: ↑July 28 22, 10:20 pmSoto who?

Re: Ohtani on the block?
That answers my question from the other thread (merge? Please?)
I wonder what he's looking at contract wise; he'll be 29 as a free-agent and Albert ended up a FA at 31. Context - he turned 28 three weeks ago. He's ostensibly 27.
Soto will want to be a free agent again at 29-31 (IMO) and wont' decline.
But there's got to be value in a ~3-5 fWAR pitcher for three years and a ~3-5 fWAR only having one spot on the roster.
But that also adds injury risk and hurts twice if so.
So torn.

I don’t know that the metric that properly gauges Ohtani’s value has been identified yet, not at least publicly.

Re: Ohtani on the block?
I don’t have much interest in Ohtani. He’s fairly one-dimensional at the plate (power, and has a decent eye). No defensive value, and while he has some speed he’s not a plus baserunner. I don’t really like his swing and feel like he could morph into an Adam Dunn type. As a pitcher, he’s good for now, but how long does he plan to pitch?
I’d much rather make the investment in Soto.

Re: Ohtani on the block?
I have read that he doesn't plan on pitching much longer.
