I'm not sure either of those two have much other than their names/legacies to recommend them, but if they're just rentals then it's not that much of a thing.

Quintana kinda ruins it since that was actually a good move, but there's still time for Mo to do something deeply hilarious like last year. We can still get Patrick Corbin.

Also not "best pitcher available", but what if the Red Sox are inclined to move Bogaerts? Does that fit the Cards' needs better (at a presumably lower price) than Soto?
