The lineup they put around Goldschmidt and Arenado is criminal. It’ll go down in Cardinals history as an inexplicable wasted opportunity.
agreed

If one of the next 2 batters had just had a base hit when we had runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, we would be within 1. Then, of course, if we hadn’t allowed 4 walks to score, we would be leading.

To be fair, they probably expected O'Neill and Carlson to replicate or at least come close to replicating the production they had last year. Especially O'Neill. If they did, it would be a very dangerous offense. His regression hurt this team worse than anyone else.

Fine. But it was apparent at the trade deadline Carlson and O’Neill weren’t contributing.

The walks are the story of this game.

100% agreed. Which is why I wanted Soto so badly. The fact they didn't address the offense at all is alarming. But it was a function of how bad the pitching was too

I'm also afraid they will run the same offense out again next year.

Carlson might be a fourth outfielder. He’s certainly not a top of the order hitter on a good team and he’s not productive enough to play RF.

Good AB from Noot. May help his redemption after not running out the ball the pitcher bobbled.
