Dan was absolutely perfect for your average Cardinals fan. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I'm going to disagree with you here. The Cardinals like stability. They'll likely want him in the booth until he retires/gets arrested/dies.Big Amoco Sign wrote: ↑January 25 23, 10:46 amChip feels like a fill-in. And not for a Dan comeback. But for a new Goldsmith-like guy they will probably bring up in the next few years. I would not be surprised if Chip only did one season.
He's got the same chance as this guy did:CardsofSTL wrote: ↑January 24 23, 8:58 pmIf McLaughlin ever does play by play again (not saying he will or should) I think it will be in 5+ years on KMOX to replace Rooney when he retires.
Why would Chip leave his current job to do 1 season for the Cardinals?Big Amoco Sign wrote: ↑January 25 23, 10:46 amI like Dan (mostly for his knowledge of Cardinals baseball) but I do think he's a homer and wished he'd dial it down. I really liked Dan a lot in the mid-2000s. He was the most humble guy ever. I totally get people not liking him. My coastal baseball friends loathe him and think he's a clown. And I get it because they have insanely good pros like Dave Sims, Rick Rizzs, Jon Miller, and Joe Davis etc. out here. So Dan comes off bombastic and over-the-top to those kind of fans. But he was ours so I didn't care. I would love to go a different direction than THAT type.

Totally see how casuals, non-Cardinals homers might view Chip as an upgrade.
Maybe not one but it doesn’t feel long term. Vibe thing. My own opinion. You’re free to disagree.dmarx114 wrote: ↑January 26 23, 2:30 pmWhy would Chip leave his current job to do 1 season for the Cardinals?Big Amoco Sign wrote: ↑January 25 23, 10:46 amI like Dan (mostly for his knowledge of Cardinals baseball) but I do think he's a homer and wished he'd dial it down.
