Re: Mets sign Jose Quintana
Woodford’s BB/9 and WHIP are identical to Quintana’s.
Yes, Quintana is a better pitcher. He’s also about to be 34 and did nothing for the better part of 5 years.
I’d have liked the Cardinals to keep him this upcoming season. Would not have wanted him for 2 years and would rather roll the dice with Woodford.

I'd use percentage over per 9 because Woodford is a reliever. Batters faced more important than outs-attained.Lesson wrote: ↑December 7 22, 2:24 pmWoodford’s BB/9 and WHIP are identical to Quintana’s.

They aren't even close in K/BB. Quintana being a 14.2% K-BB and Woodford being a 8.7% K-BB. That's a mountain between them.

Woodford is a long man/mop up guy. And that's ok. You need those over the course of a season.
I would have liked to keep Quintana especially at this price but I'm not going to cry over it. He's not irreplaceable by any stretch.

I agree with this analysis. Woodford is a SP7 on a good team. He’s a long-man, mop up guy who will keep things going if forced to take a few turns. If he’s ever your SP5 to start a season you probably got DeWitt’d.Big Amoco Sign wrote: ↑December 7 22, 2:46 pmI'd use percentage over per 9 because Woodford is a reliever. When asked about (him), Oli gushed yesterday. Just another manager of ours that doesnt agree with FO tactical frugality.

Re: Mets sign Jose Quintana
dang; yep...
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports the Mets are shutting down José Quintana (rib) from throwing for three months.
Obviously, this report starkly contrasts Mets manager Buck Showalter's statement earlier on Monday that he wasn't prepared to rule out Quintana for the start of the regular season. Puma adds that the veteran left-hander, who was diagnosed last week with a small stress fracture on his fifth rib on his left side, won't resume throwing until mid-June and wouldn't be ready to return until sometime around the All-Star break. There should be an official timetable sometime this week. Quintana's absence creates an opportunity for David Peterson or Tylor Megill to step into the Mets' starting rotation.
