Opening Day 26-man Roster

Post by GeddyWrox »

What's your opening day roster? Walker is trying to Albert his way onto the team. If he does, who from the 3 presumed OF starters gets bumped? Do you put Walker on the card every day in ink and then do the best 2/3 of TON, Carlson & Noot?

I have:
1B Goldy
3B Arenado
SS Edman
2B Gorman
C Contreras
OF Walker
OF O'Neill
OF Nootbaar
DH Yepez
OF Carlson
OF Burleson
Util Donovan
C Knizner

But that leaves off Pauly D. **I'M** OK with that! I don't think that will happen though.

Barrera has a chance to beat Knizner.

Feel like Burleson is no guarantee. They may prefer having a true SS on the bench than a redundant lefty bat. 5 OFs with a couple split kings and TTO'Neill is optimistic. I see four only making the roster. Yepez and Donovan can handle backup 1B.

DeJong is who he is. But he’s the only true SS on the roster until Winn is here. Don’t see Fermin or even someone like Querecuto leapfrogging.

They will call Fermin as a backup before Winn (who will get service time manipulation for sure).

Need to see the full pitcher list and knowing STL, they will always go the max 13 pitchers. Misiewicz, Naughton, and Romero for two of the three final pen spots.

My list:

Knizner
Contreras
Goldschmidt
Arenado
DeJong
Edman
Donovan
Yepez
Gorman
Walker
O'Neill
Carlson
Nootbaar

Montgomery
Flaherty
Matz
Wainwright
Mikolas
Gallegos
Helsley
Cabrera
Naughton
Pallante
Romero
Hicks
Woodford

Assuming Walker is a daily starter, do you just try to disperse the remaining outfield starts equally among the other 3? Or do you just wait for TON to inevitably pop a hammy again?

Carlson can't hit righties.

Nootbaar had one good half season. He's an OBP machine but the brakes need to be pumped on him a bit. Nootbaar is NOT a .221 ISO hitter.

DH and OF rotation allow for plenty of PAs. TON is good. He needs to play. But them putting TON in CF makes me think this is his make or break year. Walker should be an anchor with the other three fighting for PAs... IMO.

Donovan, Gorman, Edman/Carlson switch ability, and Yepez's ability to hit both hands makes Burleson super tradeable to me.

Making a case…

Like Donovan to Jeff Albert, this feels like a Dusty Blake “project” player.

Tigers claimed RHP Freddy Pacheco off waivers from the Cardinals.

Pacheco was optioned to Triple-A Memphis earlier this month and the Cardinals ultimately decided to remove him altogether from their 40-man roster. The 24-year-old righty has been dealing with right elbow tightness this spring and will head to Triple-A Toledo to continue working his way back. He could be an option for the Tigers in a relief role sometime this year. The interesting development here is that the Cardinals suddenly have an open spot on the 40-man roster to add someone else, like a top prospect, perhaps.

Maybe he could hang out with Marv Albert?
