Every time I see this thread with a new post I expect it is to tell us Tres is DFA’d and the Cardinals are trying to put a better team out there.

It would be the Cardinals' luck to get the #1 pick in a year when there aren't real consensus top talents available. Though Charlie Congdon certainly had a season worthy of that sort of pick this year. Joc from Florida is a nice player, but not sure he's really a 1.01 player as either a hitter or pitcher and it's pretty much only been one person we've really seen do both at a major league level.

Big benefit would be for the bonus pool flexibility it brings.
